Use of TRIZ methodology to evaluate the potential and its likelyhood to succeed of a product compared to its competitors.
The product is evaluated according to its status of evolutionary trends, performed useful and harmful functions, ideality and several others more. This improves the predictability of success according to objective criteria. Also, the ability of the company to produce valuable innovations in relation to its R&D expenses is evaluated.
Product Cost Reduction using Triz
A product in development phase resulted as too expensive with the business case at risk. The Costs of Goods Sold (COGS) were expected as to high. These costs were mainly due to material expenses as precious metals were needed. Also, the manufacturing costs were to be optimized.
In a workshop, a Function Analysis was conducted, a method from the Triz Toolbox. This helped to analyze all components in detail and allowed trimming and reduction of expensive raw materials.
Also a Function Analysis of the production process was discussed and led to reduction of one entire work step.
During the workshop ideas for considerable savings were collected with totals savings of about ~20%.

Presentation at the Product Development Summit in Berlin
Presentation by Stefan Schaper at the Product Development Summit in Berlin on 28.05.19. The potential of TRIZ was illustrated by numerous examples. These included cases from the categories cost savings, patent generation or problem solving in particularly challenging cases. Analogies from aeronautics were used to make it an exciting journey .
